Almost There
I have finally gotten all of the
recipes typed up! That was such a wonderful feeling to have them all nicely typed
in the different categories where I wanted them to be. I was able to actually finish
ahead of my tentative schedule, which is perfectly fine because that will allow
me more time to edit and revise parts of my cookbook. Honestly, I had not run
into a lot of problems in making my cookbook, mainly the issue of font size as
well as space issues. It was tedious to type up the recipes, but I knew in the
end it would be well worth all the time I had spent typing away on my keyboard.
I’m actually quite pleased with how it’s starting to look and am excited for when
I can actually put it in book form!
Last week I had talked about being
picky about what foods one puts in their bodies in choosing the quality of
their foods. The food is the most important part of preparing a meal because one
wants it to taste good and provided the much-needed fuel for our bodies. Although
the food is the most important and the quality is too, but it’s the preparation
and handling of the food that also makes an impact on meal time.
When my grandmothers used to
prepare meals and when my Mom makes meals they tried to plan ahead and plan
wisely so they could make cooking time easier and faster. Usually they planned
it out weekly often times starting out by making a larger meal in the beginning
of the week, so leftovers could be used for meals for the rest of the week as
sides or ingredients in others. For example, one could make fajitas served with
rice, stir fry, some type of meat, and fruit. The next night the leftover rice,
stir fry, and meat could be made into a casserole adding cheese or sour cream, or
whatever is desired and bake it in the oven. In trying to plan out the meals
that could potentially be made in two, aids in saving headaches and time,
making meal time less of a hassle.
It’s important to use the
leftovers and not waste food because that’s money going down the drain and a
waste of resources. Of course, though when something is old and it’s been in
the refrigerator for a while, throw it out! Do not get food poisoning or sick
from eating old food, it is not worth it! Something that is often wasted, is pie
crust dough when making homemade pie crusts, because usually there is more dough
rolled out than needed. That leftover crust could make a fun and quick dessert
that is yummy! Take that leftover pie crust roll it out, lay it on a sheet pan,
sprinkle some cinnamon and brown sugar over it, as well as add dollops of
butter over the top, and you’ve got a dessert!
Planning ahead and planning smart
when preparing food helps in making meal time less of a hassle. It goes
smoother and faster! Others may have different routines or how they go about
meal time but find what works best for your families in making meal time easier
and more pleasant.
